Ready to unleash the hidden beauty of your home? Let's get started!

Gear Up for Shutter Success

Before you get started, let's gather the needed tools and supplies.

Essential Gear:

  • Mid-America shutters: Choose the style and size from CGR Wholesale's mouth-watering deals.

  • Measuring tape

  • Pencil

  • Electric drill

  • Drill bits: A 1/4" bit for Mid-America's Shutter-Loks and an 11/64" bit for traditional screws.

  • Screwdriver

  • Hammer: For stubborn screws or uneven surfaces

  • Optional Gear:

  • Hammer drill (if needed): Masonry walls require this heavy-duty drill.

Bonus Tip: Add gloves and safety glasses for an extra layer of protection.

Step 1: Choose Your Shutter’s Location:

  1. Hold your Mid-America shutter next to its designated window.

  2. Get creative and adjust the position. This is your chance to design the ideal look for your home. We recommend creating symmetry with both shutters.

Mark the "just right" spot. Once you're happy with the placement, grab your pencil and mark the desired location on the wall or window frame.

Depending on your shutter size, remember to use the appropriate number of fasteners. Up to 43 inches, use four Shutter-Loks or screws. For any shutters 44 inches and longer, grab six Shutter-Loks or screws to ensure a secure hold.

Step 2: Precision Measurement: Mapping Your Masterpiece

Let's mark and pre-drill holes into the shutter before attaching it to the wall.

Center Stage: Position the holes within the side rails of the shutter, making sure they line up with the top, bottom, and center rails (if using six screws).

  1. The Right Hole for the Job:

  • For Shutter-Loks: Drill 1/4-inch holes like a pro.

  • For screws: Use 11/64-inch holes, but switch to 1/4-inch holes for shutters over 44 inches.

  1. Details Matter:

  • Shutters under 44 inches: Drill four 1/4-inch holes in the corners of the side rails.

  • Shutters 44 inches or greater:

  • For Shutter-Loks: Drill six 1/4-inch holes (evenly spaced for a super-strong hold).

  • For screws: Drill four 1/4-inch holes in the corners and two 11/64-inch holes in the middle of the side rails.

Step 3: Anchoring Your Masterpiece

With your pre-drilled holes ready, let's secure them to the wall. Here's the plan:

  1. Position Perfectly: Place your shutter back in its ideal spot next to the window. Remember, you marked the "just right" location in Step 1.

  2. Drill Like a Pro: Using your drill, line up the pre-drilled holes in the shutter with the marked spots on the wall. Go ahead and drill through the shutter and into the wall surface to a depth of 3-1/4 inches.

Step 4: Securing the Magic: The Final Touch

It's time to unveil the "Mid-America Magic"! This final step involves fastening the shutters to the wall using either Shutter-Loks or screws. Remember, a gentle touch is key.

  1. Shutter-Lok: If you're using Shutter-Loks, tap them gently with a hammer until they're securely seated in the pre-drilled holes.

  2. Screws: Grab your screwdriver and drive the screws into the pre-drilled holes. Remember, slow and steady wins the race (and avoids overtightening). If the screw starts feeling snug, stop right there – you don't want your shutters feeling too constricted!
